LPM 2011 :: X EDITION :: 22 - 25 SEPTEMBER :: MINSK, BELARUS

The tenth edition of LPM-Live Performers Meeting kicks off on 22nd September 2011.

LPM offers a unique chance to be involved in four days of av performances, vjing, workshops, panel discussions, product showcase which will bring together an amazing community of vjs, audiovisual artists, new media practitioners and thinkers worldwide.

The 2010 edition at Brancaleone in Rome registered 301 artists from Germany, Italy, Netherlands, France, Israel, Switzerland, Poland, Taiwan, Hungary, United States, Austria, Greece, Brazil, United Kingdom, Spain, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Portugal, Ireland, Norway, New Zealand, Turkey, Latvia. We exhibited 177 works, among performances, workshop and showcases over 4 stages.

LPM maintain the 4-days formula, but this time different fields of artistic research will be presented heterogeneously; hundreds performance and artworks investigating specific themes will be performed and exhibited each day without the constrain of one only daily topic. This way we hope to offer an insightful and surprising program, highlighting diverse artistic practices every day while fostering the sharing of knowledge by means of workshops, presentations and panel discussions.

The everyday schedule of the event:

15:00 - 21:00 Workshop

15:00 - 16:00 Lectures and conferences

16:00 - 18:00 Presentation of projects and products

18:00 - 04:00 Performances and VJ / DJ sets

Installations and exhibition stands will be active throughout the venue every day and quiet spaces for discussion and exchange will be available during the whole event.

LIVE VIDEO is the main focus of LPM; in 2011 we aim at investigating and presenting some specific aspects of live video practice which we believe play an important role in the present cultural process.

Digital Design Drop-in

Patrick Tresset in conversation with Paul Squires

Wednesday 24 August 2011

13.00 - 16.00 Free, drop-in. No booking required

Digital Studio, Sackler Centre

V&A is delighted to present Patrick Tresset in conversation with Paul Squires as part of the Digital Design Drop-in programme in the Sackler Centre Digital Studio. Patrick Tresset will be discussing the development of his distinctive robotic art projects and in the course of his conversation with Paul Squires; he will explore the origins of his work, his creation of a distinctive visual form, and the way that mediation of imagery by robots alters the relation of the artist to the artwork.

Patrick Tresset is currently a researcher at Goldsmiths, University of London. His artistic installations use what he calls clumsy robotics, and were recently on show at Tenderpixel. Patrick also co-directs with Prof. Fol Leymarie the Aikon-II project that investigates the sketching activity through computational modelling and robotics. Aikon-II is currently in part funded by the Leverhulme Trust. Aikon has received in the past year notable media attention including from the BBC, Wired, Blueprint, New Scientist, El-Mundo and more.

Paul Squires is the Managing Director of Perini, an integrated digital business based in Oxford. It comprises of three brands, Perera (an open digital creative agency); Xpeso (an online display advertising solution for publishers), but is perhaps most well-known for Imperica, an online magazine covering the intersection of art, brands, advertising, and digital culture. With its long-form editorial proposition that puts people first and is not afraid to be controversial, Imperica has covered topics from automata to dubstep (including Patrick Tresset’s work).

Fake Love is the second in a series of three short films by Aaron Rose shot in the Echo Park and Silverlake neighborhoods of Los Angeles using his iPhone 4. The film is Rose’s tribute to teen soap operas, a genre he finds both mystifying and exciting; he feels that American television “is the new avant-garde cinema.”

The story follows a gang of girls, one of whom believes that “fake love” is more exciting than true love. Instead of actors, Rose compiled a group of musicians, poets, writers, photographers and artists that hang out at the notorious all-ages club The Smell in Los Angeles. According to Rose, “They didn’t really have to act because they are such amazing personalities.”
